From the Londoner comes this great writeup by Jacob Robinson on one of the NHL’s most tenured officials:

A lot has changed for Don Van Massenhoven during his 22 year NHL refereeing career, but a few things remain the same.

To the 53-year-old, working before thousands of fans in the world’s top league never gets old.

“No, not really,” Van Massenhoven said from Joe Louis Arena Dec. 23rd following a game that featured the Red Wings and New York Islanders. “It’s pretty cool to go out on the ice – you’re joints are a little more sore but it’s very enjoyable – the game is very enjoyable. I still love it.”

The former police officer and current NHL referee is also president of the GOJHL Junior B Strathroy Rockets.  Read more over at The Londoner/Strathroy Age Dispatch.
