Referees Chris Rooney and Jean Hebert working their fifth game of the playoffs together; this duo worked LAK/EDM Game 7 and, in Round 2, TBL/FLA Game 2 (TBL W 2-1), NYR/CAR Game 3 (NYR W 4-1), and STL/COL Game 5.  Rooney was also paired up with Wes McCauley for NYR/CAR Game 7 (NYR W 6-2).  With Rooney’s Game 7 assignment, that left Hebert with a lengthy break; his last game came back on May 25.

Rooney was previously paired with Graham Skilliter for STL/MIN Game 2, EDM/LAK Game 3, CGY/DAL Game 4, and WSH/FLA Game 5.

Hebert skated alongside ref Trevor Hanson in Round 1, working NSH/COL Game 1, DAL/CGY Game 2, EDM/LAK Game 4, TBL/TOR Game 5 (TBL L 3-4), and CAR/BOS Game 6.

Rooney and Hebert combined to average 22.5 PIM per game. Both were on the low end of power plays awarded, combining for 6.7 power plays per game — second among Round 2 ref pairings only to Wes McCauley/Eric Furlatt at 6.4.   This duo called it tighter than the league average, with 51% of power plays awarded to the home team.

Linesmen Matt MacPherson and Ryan Gibbons are working their first game together this postseason — somewhat unexpectedly. We were expecting Gibbons to be paired with Jonny Murray for this game, as the only pairing to have not yet taken the ice in the Conference Finals.  Instead, MacPherson returns from TBL/NYR Game 1, when he worked the lines with Kiel Murchison.  Here’s hoping that it was a scheduling issue – and not injury or illness – that created tonight’s new pairing.

MacPherson and Murray worked NYR/CAR Game 7, with Murray and Gibbons handling COL/STL Game 6.

Standby Officials: Jon McIsaac (#2), Brad Kovachik (#71)
Series Supervisor:  Kay Whitmore
