McCauley and Furlatt previously partnered up in Round 1 for TBL/TOR Game 7, then continued in Round 2 officiating EDM/CGY Game 1 and STL/COL Game 3.

Wes McCauley worked alongside Garrett Rank for Round 1, handling DAL/CGY Game 1, MIN/STL Game 3, COL/NSH Game 4, and PIT/NYR Game 5 (NYR W 5-3).

Eric Furlatt, skating with ref Jon McIsaac in the opening round, refereed WSH/FLA Game 1, PIT/NYR Game 2 (xx), CGY/DAL Game 3, and BOS/CAR Game 5 (CAR W 5-1).

Tonight’s refs average 21.0 PIM/gm, right near the average of officiating duos from Round 1.  They’re lowest in the league, though, in power plays handed out, combining for just 6.4 power plays per game.   That may benefit the Flames, who are facing the Oilers’ #1-ranked power play in the playoffs.

McCauley’s called ’em right down the middle, with an even 50/50 split on power plays between home and road teams.  Furlatt’s favored home teams slightly, handing them 12% more power plays than the visitors.

O’Rourke and L’Ecuyer are working together for the third time this postseason, having officiated NYR/CAR Game 1 and FLA/TBL Game 3 in the second round.

Dan O’Rourke was paired with Brian Pochmara for most of Round 1, handling TBL/TOR Game 1, BOS/CAR Game 2, FLA/WSH Game 3, STL/MIN Game 4, and CGY/DAL Game 6 (CGY L 2-3). He worked back-to-back games in that series, but with a new partner – Francois St. Laurent – for DAL/CGY Game 7 (CGY W 3-2).

Frederick L’Ecuyer skated with Chris Lee, who’s also working Round 2 but alongside Steve Kozari.  L’Ecuyer and Lee worked PIT/NYR Game 1, TOR/TBL Game 3, CAR/BOS Game 4, and EDM/LAK Game 6 (EDM W 4-2).

This will be an interesting mix.  O’Rourke called the most penalty minutes in Round 1 (40.2 PIM/gm) while L’Ecuyer games saw the fewest (16.0 PIM/gm).  Perhaps that’s part of the reason the NHL split up the Lee/L’Ecuyer pairing.  Power plays are a bit more even, with the two combining for 7.9 power plays per game, on average.

O’Rourke had a heavy lean towards home teams, handing 61.7% of power plays to the home teams in Round 1, highest in the league.
