Wes McCauley has some competition on the mic. Referee Garrett Rank has entered his submission for the call of the year.

The St. Louis Blues appeared to take a 5-0 lead on a deflected goal by Alexey Toropchenko. Rank immediately waved off the goal, which lookd to have been tipped by a stick above the crossbar.  After a brief video review, the initial call on the ice was confirmed.

Rank relayed the ruling — with a bit of foreshadowing.

“You’re not gonna like it, but the call on the ice was correct,” Rank announced to a shower of boos. “No goal.”

This isn’t Rank’s first memorable mic’d-up moment. Earlier this season, he made headlines for penalizing all ten skaters at Senators vs. Panthers, announcing, “Every player on the ice has a ten minute misconduct!”
