Kozari and Lee are taking the ice together for the fourth time this postseason; the pair worked BOS/CAR Game 7 (CAR W 3-2) in Round 1 before moving on to handle STL/COL Game 1, EDM/CGY Game 2, and FLA/TBL Game 4 in Round 2.

Steve Kozari worked the opening round with Kyle Rehman, taking the ice for LAK/EDM Game 1, NSH/COL Game 2, NYR/PIT Game 3 (NYR L 4-7), FLA/WSH Game 4, and MIN/STL Game 6.

Chris Lee handled PIT/NYR Game 1 (NYR L 3-4 3OT), TOR/TBL Game 3, CAR/BOS Game 4 (CAR L 2-5), and EDM/LAK Game 6, all with referee Frederick L’Ecuyer.

Kozari and Lee, combined, average 17.5 PIM/game, handing out 7.5 power plays per game.  Lee has whistled the fewest penalties of the playoffs, with an average of 16 PIM in the games he’s worked.  Both hand out more power plays to the home team, with Kozari (0.7 more per game) and Lee (0.8 more per game).  Home teams get 54.9% of the power plays under Kozari and Lee.

The crew from Game 1 is back!  Refs Wes McCauley and Eric Furlatt worked the Flames’ 9-6 barn-burner win over the Oilers last week.  The duo handed out 28 PIMs in that one, with the Oilers 0-for-4 on the power play and the Flames 1-for-3.

McCauley and Furlatt previously partnered up in Round 1 for TBL/TOR Game 7, then continued in Round 2 at EDM/CGY Game 1 (CGY W 9-6), STL/COL Game 3, and CAR/NYR Game 4.

Wes McCauley worked alongside Garrett Rank for Round 1, handling DAL/CGY Game 1 (CGY W 1-0), MIN/STL Game 3, COL/NSH Game 4, and PIT/NYR Game 5.

Eric Furlatt, skating with ref Jon McIsaac in the opening round, refereed WSH/FLA Game 1, PIT/NYR Game 2, CGY/DAL Game 3 (CGY L 2-4), and BOS/CAR Game 5.

Tonight’s refs average 21.0 PIM/gm, right near the average of officiating duos from Round 1.  They’re lowest in the league, though, in power plays handed out, combining for just 6.4 power plays per game.   That may benefit the Flames, who are facing the Oilers’ #1-ranked power play in the playoffs.

McCauley’s called ’em right down the middle, with an even 50/50 split on power plays between home and road teams.  Furlatt’s favored home teams slightly, handing them 12% more power plays than the visitors.
