Always carry a backup.
Linesman Devin Berg may have only worked a handful of NHL games, but he learned a valuable tip from his partner on Tuesday night. Veteran linesman Tony Sericolo found himself the victim of an unfortunate equipment failure when his whistle malfunctioned early in the game between the Minnesota Wild and the New York Islanders.
Sericolo hustled off the ice to the officials’ room to grab his spare.
Once he returned to the ice and tested out the now-working whistle, he shared a few laughs with the players on the Minnesota bench.
Oh, and as for suggestions to prevent this from happening in the future:
@coreydavid11 @ScoutingTheRefs He should use a Fox 40 Caul Fingergrip pealess whistle so that won't happen!
