Phil Kessel was not pleased with the way thing were being called late in Friday night’s game between the Toronto Maple Leafs and the Minnesota Wild. The Leafs trailed 3-1, and the referees were letting them play.
Kessel took particular exception to a slash from Matt Cooke that happened right in front of referee Jean Hebert. The call would’ve given his club an important power play with 3:48 to go. He let nearly the whole officiating crew know it.
It starts with referee Jean Hebert, then linesman Steve Miller, and finally referee Greg Kimmerly. (Linesman Derek Nansen avoided Phil’s wrath on this sequence.)
Referee Greg Kimmerly had heard enough, hitting Kessel with two minutes for unsportsmanlike conduct.
