The New York Rangers were called for three unrelated penalties on the same play Wednesday night against the New York Islanders.

The first infraction came with 11:03 remaining in the second period when the Rangers’ Sam Carrick tripped up Isles center Kyle MacLean at the goal line.  Referee Michael Markovic’s arm shot up as the Islanders maintained possession on the delayed call.

Carrick picked up the second penalty of the sequence 20 seconds later when he cross-checked Mat Barzal at the point. This penalty was called by Pierre Lambert, positioned outside the zone. Again, the Islanders continued to control the puck.

Blueshirts winger Matt Rempe completed the trifecta by boarding Marc Gatcomb, picking up a minor penalty.  The Rangers finally touched the puck to stop play 44 seconds after the initial call on Carrick.

Carrick and Rempe headed to the penalty box while the Islanders readied for a 2:00 5-on-3 power play followed by two more minutes at 5-on-4.

The Rangers managed to kill off the two-man advantage, but the Isles broke through with Barzal scoring a power play marker, freeing Carrick from the box.

The New York Islanders went on to defeat the New York Rangers 5-2. Referees for the game were Michael Markovic (#31) and Pierre Lambert (#25) with linespersons Dylan Blujus (#57) and Ryan Daisy (#81).
