Washington Capitals forward Brandon Duhaime has been fined $2,500 for hitting Seattle Kraken winger Jacob Melanson with his stick from the Caps’ bench.

The encounter happened at 12:50 of the second period of Tuesday’s game in Seattle. Duhaime was not penalized on the play. He should’ve been, under Rule 56 – Interference:

56.2 Minor Penalty – A minor penalty for interference can be imposed:  …  (vii) On any identifiable player on the players’ bench or penalty bench who, by means of his stick or his body, interferes with the movements of the puck or any opponent on the ice during the progress of the play

Melanson and Duhaime would get back together in the third period, with both players dropping the gloves and earning fighting majors. Duhaime picked up an additional two minutes for roughing on the play.

The Seattle Kraken went on to defeat the Washington Capitals 5-1. Officials for the game were referees Jordan Samuels-Thomas (#37) and Tom Chmielewski (#18) with Joe Mahon (#89) and Kiel Murchison (#79) on the lines.
