Carolina Hurricanes forward Jackson Blake has been fined $2,358.94 for slashing defenseman Jacob Trouba of the Anaheim Ducks.

Blake delivered the illegal chop as he and Trouba were heading to their respective benches for line changes 9:36 into the third period. He was assessed a minor penalty for slashing by refs Kyle Rehman and Jake Brenk.

In an interview during the second intermission – prior to the slash – Blake spoke with reporter Hanna Yates.

“I think they’re just trying to get under our skin a little bit right now,” said Blake. “We can’t really let that get to us”

Looks like the Ducks got to him.

Blake’s fine is the maximum allowable under the NHL/NHLPA Collective Bargaining Agreement without a formal hearing.  The money goes to the Players’ Emergency Assistance Fund.

The Carolina Hurricanes defeated the Anaheim Ducks 4-1. Officials for the game were referees Kyle Rehman (#10) and Jake Brenk (#26) with Matt MacPherson (#83) and James Tobias (#61) on the lines.
