Referees Jean Hebert and Chris Rooney are paired up for the third time in the 2025 Stanley Cup Playoffs, having worked Game 2 of the Stanley Cup Final (FLA W 5-4 2OT).  This duo was previously put together in the first round to handle Game 7 between the Toronto Maple Leafs and Florida Panthers (FLA W 6-1).

Jean Hebert most recently worked Game 5 of the Eastern Conference Final with referee Kelly Sutherland. He worked the earlier Conference Finals games alongside Garrett Rank at EDM/DAL Game 2 (EDM W 3-0) and CAR/FLA Game 4 (FLA L 3-0). Hebert and Rank were also partnered up in Round 2, working  DAL/WPG Game 1, VGK/EDM Game 3 (EDM L 4-3), WSH/CAR Game 4, and TOR/FLA Game 6 (FLA L 2-0).  Hebert also officiated TOR/FLA Game 7 (FLA W 6-1) with Chris Rooney and Garrett Rank, after Rank came in as the standby ref following Rooney’s injury

Hebert worked the opening round with Peter MacDougall, officiating NJD/CAR Game 2, TOR/OTT Game 4, MTL/WSH Game 5, and WPG/STL Game 6.

Florida is 2-2 with Hebert in stripes, while Edmonton has gone 1-2.

Chris Rooney worked two games in the Conference Finals – both out west – after returning to action following a scary injury from a high stick to the face,   He worked DAL/EDM Game 4 (EDM W 4-1) with Dan O’Rourke, then returned for DAL/EDM Game 5 (EDM W 6-3) with Wes McCauley.

Rooney worked alongside Graham Skilliter in Round 2 at TOR/FLA Game 1 (FLA L 5-4), WSH/CAR Game 2, and WPG/DAL Game 3. He also handled TOR/FLA Game 7 (FLA W 6-1) with Jean Hebert before leaving due to aforementioned injury.  Rooney previously skated with Jon McIsaac in the opening round at STL/WPG Game 2, COL/DAL Game 3, FLA/TBL Game 4 (FLA W 4-2), and EDM/LAK Game 6 (EDM W 6-4).

The Oilers and Panthers are both 3-1 this postseason when Rooney’s reffing.

Standby Officials: Wes McCauley (#4), Trent Knorr (#74)
Series Supervisor: Kris King

Stats have been updated through two rounds of the Stanley Cup Playoffs.  Data in blue shows current playoff stats and ranks.

Games: RS (Regular Season) / PO (Playoffs)

Stats/Numbers: ’24-25 avg. (’24-25 rank) | ’25 Playoffs  (’25 Playoff rank)

Number in orange/parentheses indicated referee’s rank among active officials.

* Penalty Differential represents the absolute value of the variance of penalty calls by team per game. If Team A takes two more penalties (or two fewer) than Team B, this is a 2.  Lower numbers indicate less variance between total penalties in a game – that is, a closer number of calls for both teams.
