Interesting change in the officiating pairings for tonight’s Game 2 between the Panthers and Hurricanes, as referee Eric Furlatt returns for Game 2.  No update from the league, but we’re wondering if referee Chris Rooney was penciled in and just wasn’t ready to go yet after his injury.  Here’s your Game 2 crew:

Referee Eric Furlatt worked Game 1 of this series – a 5-2 Panthers win – with Kelly Sutherland, who’s on standby tonight after suffering an injury in Tuesday’s game.

Refs Dan O’Rourke and Eric Furlatt are working together for the first time in the playoffs.

O’Rourke reffed Round 2 alongside Francois St-Laurent, handling FLA/TOR Game 2 (FLA L 3-2), WSH/CAR Game 3 (CAR W 4-0), EDM/VGK Game 5, and WPG/DAL Game 6.

He skated with Frederick L’Ecuyer in the opening round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs at MIN/VGK Game 2, EDM/LAK Game 3, WSH/MTL Game 4, and OTT/TOR Game 5.  He also worked COL/DAL Game 7 with Wes McCauley.

Furlatt was paired up with Sutherland starting in Round 2 of the Stanley Cup Playoffs. The duo officiated EDM/VGK Game 1, DAL/WPG Game 2, and FLA/TOR Game 5 (FLA W 6-1), which included 70 minutes in penalties and 7 power plays – the most power play opportunities of any game this postseason.

Furlatt skated with ref TJ Luxmore in Round 1 at NJD/CAR Game 1 (CAR W 4-1), FLA/TBL Game 1 (FLA W 6-2), LAK/EDM Game 4, MIN/VGK Game 5 , and DAL/COL Game 6.

This postseason, Carolina is 2-1 under either of tonight’s refs while Florida is 3-1.

Linespersons Ryan Gibbons and Ryan Daisy were paired up starting in the second round, where they handled FLA/TOR Game 1, CAR/WSH Game 2, TOR/FLA Game 4, and DAL/WPG Game 5.

Standby Officials: Kelly Sutherland (#11), Trent Knorr (#74)

Stats have been updated through two rounds of the Stanley Cup Playoffs.  Data in blue shows current playoff stats and ranks.

Games: RS (Regular Season) / PO (Playoffs)

Stats/Numbers: ’24-25 avg. (’24-25 rank) | ’25 Playoffs  (’25 Playoff rank)

Number in orange/parentheses indicated referee’s rank among active officials.

* Penalty Differential represents the absolute value of the variance of penalty calls by team per game. If Team A takes two more penalties (or two fewer) than Team B, this is a 2.  Lower numbers indicate less variance between total penalties in a game – that is, a closer number of calls for both teams.
