Referees Dan O’Rourke and Wes McCauley are working together for the first time this postseason.
O’Rourke was previously paired with Frederick L’Ecuyer for MIN/VGK Game 2, LAK/EDM Game 3, WSH/MTL Game 4, and OTT/TOR Game 5.
McCauley worked alongside ref Furman South at MIN/VGK Game 1, EDM/LAK Game 2, and TBL/FLA Game 3.
You can call Wes McCauley “Mr. Game 7” – this will be his 18th Game 7 appearance, leading all officials over the past ten seasons.
O’Rourke and McCauley worked a Game 7 together last year: Dallas Stars vs. Vegas Golden Knights; Dallas won 2-1.
Across a combined 23 Games 7 officiated by either official, only 21 power plays have been awarded in the third period – three for puck-over-glass. Six games have seen no third period penalties called.
The Dallas Stars are 10-0-3 over the past three seasons under McCauley.
On the lines, Kiel Murchison and Scott Cherrey are also skating together for the first time in the playoffs. Murchison worked with CJ Murray, while Cherrey skated with Libor Suchanek.
Expect to see all four of tonight’s officials advance to Round 2.
Series Supervisor: Don Van Massenhoven
Games: PS (Preseason); RS (Regular Season); PO (Playoffs)
Stats/Numbers: ’24-25 avg. (’24-25 rank) | ’23-24 avg. (’23-24 rank)
Number in orange/parentheses indicated referee’s rank among active officials.
* Penalty Differential represents the absolute value of the variance of penalty calls by team per game. If Team A takes two more penalties (or two fewer) than Team B, this is a 2. Lower numbers indicate less variance between total penalties in a game – that is, a closer number of calls for both teams.
