Referees Kelly Sutherland and Morgan MacPhee had some clean-up to do on the ice at Caps vs. Kraken on Sunday, sending all 10 skaters to the penalty boxes.
Things got ugly six minutes into the third when Washington’s Tom Wilson got tangled up with Seattle’s Josh Mahura. Wilson issued a series of cross-checks, which continued even after Mahura was down on the ice. Kraken players took offense, Caps players moved in, and chaos ensued.
Don’t call it a line brawl. More like a Royal Rumble. Gloves weren’t off, for the most part. Only a few punches were thrown. It was more grappling and wrestling out there.
In total, 42 penalty minutes were handed out on the play – 20 to the Kraken and 22 to the Capitals. Washington’s Brandon Duhaime picked up the extra minor for roughing Tye Kartye that gave Seattle a power play.

Had this scuffle devolve into a proper bout of fisticuffs, the penalty calls would’ve been much different. The NHL rule book has specific punishments when multiple fights take place on the ice.
The Washington Capitals went on to defeat the Seattle Kraken 4-2. Referees for teh game were Kelly Sutherland (#11) and Morgan MacPhee (#43) with linespersons Ryan Daisy (#81) and Tommy Hughes (#65).
