New York Rangers forward Matt Rempe will not face supplemental discipline for a high hit on Nashville Predators’ Nick Blankenburg.

Rempe pursued Blankenburg deep in the Nashville zone, driving him into the glass behind the Preds’ goal with what appeared to be an elbow.

With Blankenburg still down on the ice, Nashville’s Andreas Englund took the law into his own hands, going after Rempe in response to the hit. When the dust settled, Rempe was given two for the initial elbow and five for fighting, while Englund picked up two for instigating, five for fighting, and a 10-minute misconduct for starting the altercation.

“Remps is just such a big man,” said Rangers head coach Peter Laviolette. “He was forechecking. When he hits, he’s just higher than everybody else. I don’t think he hit him, I think he maybe grazed him a little bit. I think it was more of a miss. That’s his game, as well. He’s got to do it within the rules, but we also need him forechecking”

Rempe was suspended eight games earlier this season for an illegal hit on Dallas Stars defenseman Miro Heiskanen.
