Former NHL defenseman Cal Foote has been suspended one game by the Senate of the Disciplinary Commission of the Slovak Ice Hockey Association for an illegal check to the head of an opposing player.

Foote signed with Liptovský Mikuláš of the Slovakian league in the offseason. He has no goals and one assist – and now one suspension – in two games with his new club.  Foote, 25, played four games with the New Jersey Devils last season, scoring zero goals and one assist; he also posted two goals and seven assists in 24 games with the AHL’s Utica Comets.

The Colorado native was drafted 14th overall in the first round of the 2017 NHL draft by the Tampa Bay Lightning. He spent three seasons with the Bolts before moving on single-season stops with the Nashville Predators and New Jersey Devils.

Foote’s NHL contract was terminated after he was charged with sexual assualt as part of the Team Canada 2018 World Junior Championship scandal

His teammate Filip Mezovský was also banned for two games for hitting the goalpost with his stick.

Liptovský Mikuláš lost the game 4-3, unable to overcome a hat-trick from former NHLer Adam Cracknell for Poprad.

Referees for the game were Filip Crman and Tomáš Hronský, with linesmen Maroš Pribula and Lukáš Kacej.
