No changes in the ref pairings but we do have a brotherly connection waiting in the wings.  The Gawryletz brothers are both working standby on the lines tonight — Brandon for Bruins/Panthers and Travis at Stars/Avalanche.

Refs Kelly Sutherland and Eric Furlatt have worked four games together this postseason. They were first paired up for BOS/TOR Game 7 (BOS W 2-1 OT/series clincher) in the opening round, and have continued their partnership in Round 2, working CAR/NYR Game 2, EDM/VAN Game 2, and DAL/COL Game 4.

Sutherland was paired up with Pierre Lambert most of the opening round, working WSH/NYR Game 1, CAR/NYI Game 3, BOS/TOR Game 4 (BOS W 3-1), and COL/WPG Game 5.

Furlatt refereed alongside Trevor Hanson at COL/WPG Game 1, NSH/VAN Game 2, CAR/NYI Game 4, and TBL/FLA Game 5 (FLA W 6-1/series clincher).

The Bruins and Panthers both advanced to the second round on series-winning games officiated by tonight’s refs — Sutherland for Boston’s Game 7 win over the Leafs and Furlatt at the Florida’s Game 5 elimination of the Lightning.

Rooney and Skilliter were paired up starting in Round 2, working BOS/FLA Game 1, NYR/CAR Game 3, and VAN/EDM Game 3. This duo worked together just once during the regular season (CGY/VGK on January 13).

Rooney worked the opening round with Peter MacDougall, officiating VGK/DAL Game 2, EDM/LAK Game 3, and WPG/COL Game 4 (COL W 5-1).  He paired up with referee Dan O’Rourke for BOS/TOR Game 6.

Skilliter skated alongside ref Francis Charron in the opening round, handling LAK/EDM Game 1, BOS/TOR Game 3, and NSH/VAN Game 5.

Rooney’s last Stars game was Dallas vs. Carolina on February 13.  Skilliter hasn’t working an Avs game since April 14 (Colorado vs. Vegas) and hasn’t seen the Stars since November 14 (Dallas vs. Arizona).

Stats have been updated through the end of the 2023-24 regular season.

Games: PS (Preseason); RS (Regular Season); PO (Playoffs)

Number in orange/parentheses indicated referee’s rank among active officials.

* Penalty Differential represents the absolute value of the variance of penalty calls by team per game. If Team A takes two more penalties (or two fewer) than Team B, this is a 2.  Lower numbers indicate less variance between total penalties in a game – that is, a closer number of calls for both teams.
