The Winnipeg Jets’ game tying goal survived a Coach’s Challenge from the Colorado Avalanche during the first period of Sunday’s Game 4.

Jets forward Mason Appleton carried the puck into the Avs’ zone as Kyle Connor and Adam Lowry crossed the blue line.  Appleton slowed down and passed the puck back to defenseman Nate Schmidt, who fired a shot from the slot past goaltender Alexandar Georgiev.

Colorado Avalanche head coach Jared Bednar challenged the play for being offside.

After a lengthy review, the NHL’s Situation Room determined…   Well, actually, they determined that they didn’t have the right angle to make a determination.   With no conclusive video evidence to overturn the call on the ice, the original call would stand.

The Avs were issued a minor penalty for the failed challenge.

Bednar and his coaching staff went 4-for-7 on challenges in the regular season, including 2-for-3 on offside plays.

Colorado went on to defeat Winnipeg 5-1. Referees for the game were Chris Rooney (#5) and Peter MacDougall (#38), with linesmen Bryan Pancich (#94) and Jesse Marquis (#86) — and ref Tom Chmielewski filling in on lines wearing #85.
