Seattle Kraken forward Tomas Tatar was penalized for playing the puck from the bench against the Philadelphia Flyers.
Tatar was sitting on the boards ready to come on the ice, when the puck deflected off the stick of winegr Jordan Eberle near the bench. Rather than leave it, Tatar reached out with his stick to stop the puck and allow Eberle to play it.
Play was immediately whistled down for interference.
Interference from the bench is covered in Rule 56.2 (vii):
A minor penalty for interference shall be imposed … (vii) On any identifiable player on the players’ bench or penalty bench who, by means of his stick or his body, interferes with the movements of the puck or any opponent on the ice during the progress of the play
Tatar headed off to serve his time; the Kraken were able to kill off the minor penalty.
The Seattle Kraken went on to win the game 2-1 over the Philadelphia Flyers. Officials for the game were referees Graham Skilliter (#24) and Chris Schlenker (#3), with linesmen Travis Gawyrletz (#67) and Julien Fournier (#56).
