Linesman Shandor Alphonso was just trying to avoid the play when he ended up in the Blue Jackets’ bench.
The official hopped up on the boards as the play moved down to the Columbus end. New Jersey’s Cold McLeod carried the puck in front of the benches where he was rubbed out by Blue Jackets defenseman Erik Gudbranson. Alphonso got caught up in the collision, which sent him over the wall and into the bench.
McLeod and a handful of Columbus players – along with a coach – were fortunate to have avoided being cut by Alphonso’s skate. There were no injuries on the play, though Alphonso and the players did have a few laughs.
