We’ve got another Duck in the Department of Player Safety. Former Anaheim captain Ryan Getzlaf joins the league’s office as part of DOPS, reporting to his former teammate George Parros.
“We are thrilled to welcome Ryan as the newest member of our department,” Parros said. “His accomplishments on the ice speak for themselves: he won at every level and was widely respected for being a hard-nosed and highly-skilled player and effective leader. From his rookie NHL season in 2005 until his recent retirement, he lived and played through many of the changes our game has seen, which will provide our group with a unique and valuable perspective moving forward.”
Getzlaf played his entire NHL career with the Ducks, setting franchise records in assists (737) and points (1,019) over his 17 seasons. The Regina, Saskatchewan, native led Anaheim to a Stanley Cup Championship in 2007 and claimed five gold medals with Team Canada at the 2010 and 2014 Olympic Winter Games, 2016 World Cup of Hockey, 2005 World Junior Championship, and 2003 IIHF Under-18 World Championship.
During his 1,157-game NHL career, Getzlaf was never suspended. He was issued a $10,000 fine for using a homophobic slur during the 2017 Stanley Cup Playoffs.
