Bruins’ Krug Has Goal Waved Off by Rooney for Interference

The Bruins thought they’d scored a nice power play goal from a point blast by Torey Krug.  Big Zdeno Chara was in front, screening goaltender Jimmy Howard.  He was careful to position his 6’9″, 255-lb. frame at the top of the crease to avoid interfering with the Detroit netminder. That is, until Red Wings defenseman Nicklas Kronwall cross-checked him into the crease.  Big Z’s momentum carried him through, his skate clipping Howard’s stick. NHL Referee Don Van Massenhoven Set to Retire

After 23 years, Van Massenhoven will be hanging up the orange armbands. Friday night in Detroit, referee Don Van Massenhoven will work his 67th game of the season, number 1,366 of his career.  That game will also be the final time he pulls the striped jersey over his head in the NHL. Habs’ Murray Suspended Pending Hearing for Hit on Lightning’s Kostka

Montreal defenseman Douglas Murray might have played his last game of the year for the Habs. His head shot on Tampa’s Mike Kostka will see him spending some time in the press box. The play happened late in the third period of a 3-1 Lightning victory. Murray's match penalty for hit on Kostka carries an indefinite suspension pending a hearing.
