QMJHL Goaltender Phaneuf Suspended 9 Games For Kick

Goaltender interference has been a hot topic at all levels of hockey.  We’ve seen a run of ‘incidental contact’ calls that have negated potential goals as well as goaltenders unable to stop pucks when they’ve been bumped in the crease. Last Sunday, in the third period of a 1-0 game, Chicoutimi Saguenées goaltender Storm Phaneuf decided he’d had enough. As Drummondville Voltiguers forward Dylan Montcalm crashed the net, he was checked by Chicoutimi’s Nikita Liamkin. Linesman Derek Amell Injured by Slewfoot

Linesmen have it rough. They don’t get to have fun announcing calls like the referees do, and they often get caught up in plays along the blueline. Worse yet, they occasionally end up as unwilling participants in fights.  Now it seems even faceoffs aren’t safe. Linesman Derek Amell was taken out by an inadvertent slewfoot after dropping the puck late in Monday night’s game between the Colorado Avalanche and the Montreal Canadiens.
