Former Kitchener Rangers captain Ben Fanelli stepped on to the ice at the Aud for a team scrimmage.  Only this time, instead of the familiar blue and red, he was in black and white. GMHL Supporting ALS Canada with Ice Buckets, Patch

Officials all across North America have been participating in the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge.  One of our favorite such videos came from the GMHL.  Now, the whole organization is stepping under the bucket. The Greater Metro Jr. A Hockey League (GMHL) officials have a huge event planned for this Wednesday, September 10, 2014 in Orangeville, Ontario. Referees, Linesmen Head to NHL’s Traverse City Prospects Tournament

The annual Traverse City NHL Prospects Tournament will take place from September 12-16 in Traverse City, Michigan. While it’s a showcase for some of the NHL’s up-and-coming talent, it’s also an opportunity for younger referees and linesmen to get some exposure. The eight-team tournament featured squads from the Detroit Red Wings, Buffalo Sabres, Carolina Hurricanes, Columbus Blue Jackets, Dallas Stars, Minnesota Wild, New York Rangers, and St. Louis Blues. Referee Garrett Rank Joins NHL

Many NHL players and officials like to spend their offseasons golfing. They’re going to have some steep competition next summer, as the latest official to join the NHL is quite accomplished on the links.
