The NHL’s taken a tougher stance on diving this year, but they’re not the only league to have a problem with embellishment. Over in the KHL, they’ve really stepped up their diving game.
Former NHLer Dan Sexton currently plays for Neftekhimik Nizhnekamsk. He leads the team in both goals (19) and assists (27) in 44 games played. Apparently, he also has an aptitude for drawing penalties, as he did in the team’s recent game against Metallurg Magnitogorsk:
Sexton went down. The referee’s arm went up. Metallurg’s Evgeny Timkin went to the box.
Refs for the game were Vladimir Bukin and Roman Shchenyov. Linesmen were Eduard Metalnikov and Alexander Sirotkin.
Ultimately, Magnitogorsk had its revenge, claiming a 4-3 victory over Neftekhimik. If only Sexton had earned some points for his dive…
