On Tuesday, Brendan Shanahan took part in the Alumni Game at the Big House.
On Wednesday, Joffrey Lupul suited up for the Toronto Maple Leafs in the Winter Classic.
On Thursday, Lupul should expect to get a call from Shanahan for what happened the previous day.

Midway through the first period, with the game scoreless, Lupul retaliated for a hit by the Wings’ Jakub Kindl.  Unfortunately, the Toronto winger went after the wrong guy.  He crosschecked Eaves in the neck, sending him down to the ice where he remained for some time before being helped off.

Lupul was hit with a two-minute penalty for cross-checking.  (Neither official – Dan O’Halloran or Brian Pochmara – dared call a five-minute major on the play.)

Helene St. James reports that Eaves is still being evaluated:

General manager Ken Holland told the Free Press that Eaves didn’t suffer anything broken, but he will need to be evaluated for a possible concussion.

With the dangerous nature of the hit, the possibility of injury, and the high visibility of the hit taking place during the NHL’s signature event, expect a suspension.
