Caps Niskanen Facing Suspension for Elbow on Canes Skinner?

Carolina Hurricanes winger Jeff Skinner left Sunday’s game after taking a high hit from Washington Capitals defenseman Matt Niskanen. Skinner appeared to briefly lose consciousness as he fell to the ice and seemed disoriented once he was back on his skates.  He was assisted to the locker room by referee Francois L’Ecuyer and linesman Tim Nowak.  Skinner did not return to the game. No penalty was assessed on the play.  Referees for the game were Francis Charron (#6) and Frederick L’Ecuyer (#17). “He spun around right into my elbow. No Suspension for Flames’ Backlund After Hit on Jets’ Enstrom

It looks like the Flames’ Mikael Backlund won’t miss any time after all. The NHL Department of Player Safety will not be calling Backlund on the carpet for his dangerous hit on Winnipeg Jets defenseman Tobias Enstrom. After reviewing the play, Stephane Quintal and his team have decided not to charge the Calgary forward with any supplemental discipline. The hit took place in the third period of the final preseason game for both teams. Referee Rob Martell called Backlund for the hit, sending him to the box for just two minutes for boarding.
