NHL linesmen have been having a rough week. We saw Lonnie Cameron get caught up in a play, Trent Knorr get knocked down, and Brad Lazarowich deliver an inadvertent elbow to Ryan Getzlaf. None of those situations, though, looked as painful as what happened to linesman Kiel Murchison on Thursday night.
Murch dropped the puck for a faceoff in the Wild zone, then retreated towards the blueline. Unfortunately, the puck headed along the boards in the same direction. When Panthers defenseman Aaron Ekblad advanced toward the puck, he didn’t see Murchison moving right into his path.
Fearing an injury, the officials stopped play immediately. Fortunately, Murchison was not hurt and was able to remain in the game.
