Canadiens’ Emelin Fined $11k for Head Shot on Gionta

Montreal’s Emelin, please report to the principal’s office.  The Montreal Canadiens defenseman will have a hearing with the NHL’s Department of Player Safety – and former Montreal Canadiens defenseman – Stephane Quintal on Saturday.

Emelin faces supplemental discipline after a head shot on Buffalo Sabres forward Brian Gionta.

The Habs’ blueliner was given a two-minute minor for an illegal check to the head on the play, which happened late in the third period. Referees were Ghislain Hebert and Brian Pochmara.

Emelin’s been the victim of hits that required supplemental discipline, but this is just his second time being called on the carpet.  He was previously fined for butt-ending.

UPDATE: The NHL has fined Emelin $11,021.51.

The Canadiens and Sabres have a rematch tonight. It looks like Emelin will be in the lineup… just $11k poorer.
