Referee Kelly Sutherland Celebrates 1000-Game Milestone

Referee Kelly Sutherland was honored for reaching the 1000-game milestone prior to Saturday’s game between the Washington Capitals and New York Rangers. The veteran official was working game number 1,011. His 1,000th game came back in March, when the Florida Panthers visited the Boston Bruins. The ceremony was delayed so as to avoid any distractions around the high-intensity of games during the push to reach the Stanley Cup Playoffs. Referee Chris Schlenker to Make NHL Debut in Montreal

Each Montreal Canadiens home game has featured a debut.  On Tuesday, it was defenseman Shea Weber in the bleu, blanc, et rouge for the first time on home ice. On Thursday, goaltender Carey Price played his first game of the season. Tonight against the Philadelphia Flyers, one man will be making his first foray onto NHL ice: referee Chris Schlenker.   Schlenker will officiate his first National Hockey League game alongside referee Brad Meier and linesmen Trent Knorr and Steve Miller.
