Avs McLeod Faces In-Person Hearing for Hit

Another scary hit, another likely suspension… At 2:13 of the first period of Thursday’s game between the Colorado Avalanche and Detroit Red Wings, Avs winger Cody McLeod was assessed a five-minute major and a game misconduct for boarding Detroit’s Niklas Kronwall. Kronwall’s helmet was knocked off in the collision.  He lay motionless on the ice before being removed from the ice on a stretcher. Kronwall did not return. Referee Puts Player in Chokehold

For anyone who’s ever joked about going to a hockey game and having a boxing match break out… the game has evolved. Fans at a game between the Växjö Lakers and Färjestad BK of the Swedish Elite League were treated to some MMA action on October 17. Attempting to break up a post-whistle scrum, the referee successfully completed a takedown before executing a perfect guillotine choke on one of the Farjestad’s Marius Holtet.
