Once again the NHL takes us on to the ice for a listen to the sounds of the action. Check out the sounds of the players, and – of course – the officials from the opening round of the 2019 Stanley Cup Playoffs.

Some officiating highlights:

  • 0:43 – Referee Dan O’Rourke: “It’s good to work, right? This time of year, everybody loves to be here.”
  • 1:12 – “Watch his hands. Watch the crease Alex [Ovechkin]. Watch the crease!”
  • 1:16 – “They’re finishing every ******* hit. We like the hitting as long as your feet are staying on the ice.”
  • 1:22 – “**** me,” says ref Kelly Sutherland as he gets caught up in the play along the boards.
“Thanks for missing me down there,” Sutherland later says to Carolina’s Justin Williams. “I was stuck on the wall.”
  • 1:57 – “I’m not calling a penalty,” ref Dan O’Rourke tells Pierre-Edouard Bellemare. “You can argue it.”
“I don’t understand it,” replies Bellemare. “What’s the rule on this?”
    “That’s the rule,” O’Rourke says.
  • 2:04 – “I hardly touched him,” protests Toronto’s Jake Muzzin.   “I know,” referee Brad Meier replies. “Plus you got the old guy discount.”
  • 2:13 Dallas Stars captain Jamie Benn chastises referee Wes McCauley for using foul language
