The National Hockey League Players Association (NHLPA) recently surveyed its members to ask about other players, coaches, arenas, and officials.
Wes McCauley was named the league’s top referee among the players surveyed, capturing 47.8% of the vote.
Kelly Sutherland was second at 17.7%, followed by Tim Peel (4.4%), Dan O’Halloran (2.7%), and Trevor Hanson (2.7%).

The men in stripes impact the NHL game on a nightly basis, and the players think Wes McCauley is at the top of his game when it comes to officiating.
Other questions included the league’s toughest player (Ryan Reaves), favorite rink (Montreal’s Bell Centre), best forward and defenseman of all time (Wayne Gretzky and Bobby Orr, respectively).
