Vancouver’s Jake Virtanen knows all abut the importance of going to the front of the net. While the idea is to use your stick, sometimes you need to score goals however you can. On Thursday, Virtanen netted one off his face.
Per Rule 78.4, that’s a good goal:
If an attacking player has the puck deflect into the net, off his skate or body, in any manner, the goal shall be allowed. The player who deflected the puck shall be credited with the goal.
While Virtanen recorded one tally on the scoresheet, he earned nine on his face — stitches, that is.
