We’ve seen NHL-licensed toys before which have given us chances to bring home smaller versions of our favorite players. The NHL’s latest partnership with PLAYMOBIL, though, goes one step further to feature a big part of the game that has previously been ignored in its toy lineups: the officials.
The NHL and PLAYMOBIL have announced a partnership for a new toy line that will bring teams – along with referees and linesmen – into fans’ homes in time for the 2015-16 NHL season. The lineup kicks off with the Original Six, with more teams to follow. (Think of it as a mini-NHL, complete with expansion!) The Bruins, Blackhawks, Red Wings, Canadiens, Rangers, and Leafs will all be represented this fall with both skaters and goalies. They’ll be complemented by the Stanley Cup, a full ice rink, and Zamboni, along with referees and linesmen.
Now, in the comfort of their own homes, instead of just reenacting their favorite goals from the hockey season, kids can also relive their favorite penalty calls.
From the NHL and PLAYMOBIL:
The new NHL figures enable them to bring the game to life with interactive functions including skater shooting and puck-stopping goalie action. The extensive line of 16 playsets will also feature a full ice rink with score-keeper, a Zamboni® ice resurfacing machine, NHL referees, and the coveted Stanley Cup trophy.
Richard Brookes, Director of Sales and Marketing for PLAYMOBIL Canada, said, “Fans of the NHL are amongst the most involved and fervent fans of any sport, and that extends to little ones as well. We’re excited to be able to give kids and parents everywhere a lineup of great looking, true-to-form NHL figures, allowing them to take their love of their teams from the rink to the playroom.”
The new lineup is expected to hit stores in October. According to Forbes, deals are already in place to carry the toys at major retailers including Amazon, Target, Toys ‘R’ Us, and Walmart.
