Jordan Nolan, you can’t do that.

Late in the second period of Sunday’s game between the Kings and Oilers, there was a scrum in front of the Los Angeles net. Edmonton winger Jesse Joensuu took a shot at Kings defensemen Drew Doughty as both teams converged on goaltender Jonathan Quick.

With linesmen Brian Mach and Mark Wheler breaking up the scrum, Kings forward Jordan Nolan fired two gloved punches at Joensuu.  He may have been motivated by Joensuu’s earlier actions.   Watch the Edmonton winger, down on the ice, reach up and appear to grab Nolan’s stick-and-pucks at the 14-second mark:

Nolan was hit with two roughing minors on the play.  Joensuu was called for the initial cross-check on Doughty.

Referees for the game were Dennis LaRue and Ian Walsh.

The outcome of the hearing with the NHL’s Department of Player Safety is pending.
