Toronto Maple Leafs defenseman Dion Phaneuf has been suspended two games for his hit on the Bruins’ Kevan Miller.

Phaneuf will miss the club’s upcoming games against the Kings and the Blues.  He will forfeit $66,666.66 in salary.

The incident occurred in Sunday’s game between the Leafs and Bruins.  Phaneuf was not penalized on the play.  Somehow, referees Tim Peel and Dennis LaRue both missed what was an obvious check-through-the-numbers.

Miller did not return to the game, though there were only two minutes remaining with the Bruins holding a 4-2 lead.  Boston went on to add an empty-net goal en route to a 5-2 victory.
