It’s a new ref pairing for tonight’s Game 7, as refs Chris Rooney and Jean Hebert will be working together for the first time in the Stanley Cup Playoffs. These two have each worked a game earlier this series, with Hebert handling Game 1 and Rooney on for Game 3. The two refs only worked together twice all season: NYR/VGK on 12/7 and EDM/MIN on 12/12.
Rooney skated alongside fellow ref Graham Skilliter all postseason, having previously combined forces at MIN/DAL Game 2, BOS/FLA Game 3, TOR/TBL Game 4, NYR/NJD Game 5, and SEA/COL Game 7 (SEA W 2-1) — along with FLA/TOR Game 2, DAL/SEA Game 3 (SEA W 7-2), and VGK/EDM Game 3 in the Conference Semifinals.
Hebert was previously paired up with referee Kyle Rehman since the start of the playoffs. The duo handled LAK/EDM Game 2, COL/SEA Game 3, VGK/WPG Game 4, TBL/TOR Game 5, and NJD/NYR Game 6 in Round 1, as well as SEA/DAL Game 1 (SEA W 5-4 OT), NJD/CAR Game 2, VGK/EDM Game 3, and FLA/TOR Game 5 in the Second Round.
Linesmen Scott Cherrey and Jonny Murray came together in Round 2, manning the lines for NJD/CAR Game 1, TOR/FLA Game 3, and SEA/DAL Game 5. Cherrey worked the opening round with Brandon Gawryletz, while Murray was paired with his brother, linesman Travis Gawryletz.
Standby Officials: Gord Dwyer, Matt MacPherson
* Numbers in orange represent ref’s ranking among active officials.
* Penalty Differential represents the absolute value of the variance of penalty calls by team per game. If Team A takes two more penalties (or two fewer) than Team B, this is a 2 Lower numbers indicate less variance between total penalties in a game – that is, a closer number of calls for both teams.
Playoff stats updated through May 9. Regular season stats have been updated through the end of the 2022-23 regular season.
