Sutherland worked Round 1 alongside referee Kendrick Nicholson, handling WPG/VGK G1, SEA/COL G2, NJD/NYR G3, NYI/CAR G5, and DAL/MIN G6. Hanson, paired with ref Eric Furlatt, officiated LAK/EDM G1, TBL/TOR G2 (TOR W 7-2), VGK/WPG G3, COL/SEA G4, and BOS/FLA G6 (FLA W 7-5).
This will be an interesting pairing, as Hanson/Furlatt were near the top of penalty calls, while Sutherland and Nicholson ranked near the bottom.
Linesmen Steve Barton and Bryan Pancich are working together for the first time this postseason. In Round 1, Barton was paired on the lines with James Tobias, while Pancich skated with Andrew Smith.
