Two of the NHL’s top referees are paired up for tonight’s Game 4.
Referee Kelly Sutherland handled Game 1 of the Final (COL W 4-3 OT) with Gord Dwyer; that duo also worked in Conference Finals, officiating EDM/COL Game 1 (COL W 8-6) and NYR/TBL Game 3 (TBL W 4-1), as well as NYR/PIT Game 7 in the opening round. Sutherland officiated Round 2 with Jon McIsaac, refereeing TBL/FLA Game 1 (TBL W 4-1), NYR/CAR Game 2, and STL/COL Game 4 (COL W 6-3).
He skated with Jake Brenk in Round 1, working STL/MIN Game 1, LAK/EDM Game 2, COL/NSH Game 3 (xx), NYR/PIT Game 4, and TOR/TBL Game 6 (TBL W 4-3).
Referee Wes McCauley worked Game 2 of the Stanley Cup Final (COL W 7-0) with referee Jean Hebert. McCauley has been paired up with Eric Furlatt throughout the playoffs; the pair are coming off three games in the Conference Finals: NYR/TBL Game 1 (TBL L 2-6), COL/EDM Game 3 (COL W 4-2), and NYR/TBL Game 5 (TBL W 3-1). In Round 1, they handled TBL/TOR Game 7 (TBL W 2-1), then continued in Round 2 at EDM/CGY Game 1, STL/COL Game 3, and CAR/NYR Game 4. McCauley also worked NYR/CAR Game 7 with referee Chris Rooney.
Wes McCauley worked alongside Garrett Rank for Round 1, handling DAL/CGY Game 1, MIN/STL Game 3, COL/NSH Game 4 (COL W 5-3), and PIT/NYR Game 5.
Linesman Steve Barton worked Game 1 of this series (with Ryan Daisy), while Kiel Murchison returns from Game 2 (paired with Jonny Murray)
Expect to see Chris Rooney and Jean Hebert working Game 6… though, if it’s an elimination game, pairings are subject to change.
