There’s nothing like winning your first NHL game, especially when you’ve got something to remember it by.
Senators goaltender Filip Gustavsson earned the victory – 3-2 over the Calgary Flames – but nearly lost the puck. After the final buzzer sounded, Flames defenseman Rasmus Andersson collected the biscuit as he headed off the ice.
Ottawa’s Brady Tkachuk spotted the sneaky play and hustled after the Flames blueliner. Linesman David Brisebois intercepted Tkachuk, stopping his pursuit and yelling to Andersson who tossed the puck away.
Calgary forward Matthew Tkachuk – giving his brother an assist – cleared the puck down the ice towards the Ottawa zone.
After the game, Andersson claimed the whole incident was unintentional.
“I was just in the heat of the moment. I picked the puck up. As soon as I realized it was his first NHL win I chucked the puck back. It was his first NHL win and obviously you should get the puck”
Gustavsson eventually did end up with the puck.
