Referee Gord Dwyer is working his first Stanley Cup Final, while Chris Rooney is refereeing his fourth (2012, 2013, 2018).
Rooney and Dwyer refereed Game 2 of the Eastern Conference Final between the Boston Bruins and Carolina Hurricanes (BOS W 6-2) and Game 4 of the Western Conference Final between the St. Louis Blues and San Jose Sharks (STL W 2-1).
The duo were paired up starting in the second round, handling DAL/STL Game 1 (STL W 3-2), COL/SJS Game 2, and BOS/CBJ Game 4 (BOS W 4-1). Rooney was also paired up with Marc Joannette for DAL/STL Game 7 (STL W 2-1 2OT).
Rooney worked with referee Kyle Rehman in the opening round, covering VGK/SJS Game 1, WPG/STL Game 2 (STL W 4-3), BOS/TOR Game 3 (BOS L 2-3), COL/CGY Game 5, and WSH/CAR Game 6. Dwyer was previously aligned with Francis Charron for CBJ/TBL Game 1, WPG/STL Game 3 (STL L 3-6), NYI/PIT Game 4, VGK/SJS Game 5, and BOS/TOR Game 6 (BOS W 4-2).
With five referees selected to officiate the Stanley Cup Finals, only referee Wes McCauley has yet to see action. He’s also not been listed as standby for either game. McCauley was injured in Game 6 of the Western Conference Final. Here’s hoping the extra few days off will allow him to get back on the ice for Game 3 of the Stanley Cup Final.
This is linesman Derek Amell’s seventh Stanley Cup Final (2009, 2012, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2018), and the second for Scott Cherrey (2017).
Standby Officials: Kelly Sutherland #11, Greg Devorski #54
Series Supervisor: Kris King
Supervisor Kris King is overseeing his first series of the 2019 Stanley Cup Playoffs. King, who amassed 2,030 PIM in 839 NHL games, is Senior VP of Hockey Operations and part of the league’s Department of Player Safety.
