Linesman Steve Barton was hospitalized when his head hit the ice after a scary fall in Tuesday night’s game in Edmonton.

Oilers center Connor McDavid was hit by Columbus Blue Jackets blueliner Zach Werenski in front of the penalty box. McDavid fell to the ice and slid into Barton, who tried desperately to get out of the way.

Barton, who was motionless on the ice for nearly five minutes, was taken off the ice on a stretcher. The veteran linesman gave a thumbs up on his way out.

Though conscious and moving all extremities, as reported by Mark Spector, Barton was taken to the hospital for precautionary reasons.

Barton was released from the hospital Wednesday morning, per Aaron Portzline.  No word on when he’ll return to the ice.

All the best on a full recovery to linesman Steve Barton.
