Former NHLer Andrei Kovalenko punched a referee during a men’s league game. The referee was taken to the hospital for evaluation.
Kovalenko is currently the head of the KHL Players Association.
SovSport’s Slava Malamud offers up more information and a possible defense form Kovalenko.
Kovalenko's explanation? He says his left-handed punch can't be very good because he is a rightie. Seriously. This is how he defends himself.
The ref claims he has a concussion and will be pressing charges.— Slava Malamud (@SlavaMalamud) March 10, 2018
More to come on possible disciplinary or legal action. This can’t be looked upon favorably when the head of the players’ association knocks out an official.
Then again, it is Russia. What a country!
