Second-tier Czech league player David Vitek just saw his playoffs come to an end.  The Vsetin forward has been suspended through October 31, 2018, for an illegal elbow to the head of Karlovy Vary’s Vladimir Sicak, a ban that includes five playoff games.

Vitek was given a major penalty and game misconduct for the hit.

Sicak was injured on the play and did not return to the game. He was hospitalized, reportedly suffering a concussion and broken jaw.

In suspending Vitek for five games, the Czech League Disciplinary Commission ruled that the Czech forward was not trying to play the puck and that he delivered a hit to an opponent already engaged with another player and therefore unable to defend himself.

The league cited the brutal severity of the hit and the high degree of potential injury on the play in banning Vitek from any activity through the end of October.
