Nashville Predators defenseman P.K. Subban has been fined $2,000 for diving/embellishment.
His first violation, which received a warning, came back on January 22 against the Minnesota Wild. Subban drew a holding penalty from Nino Niederreiter and was sent to the box for embellishing the play by referees Brad Watson and Chris Schlenker.
Subban’s second violation came during the third period of Game 4 in Nashville’s second-round series with the St. Louis Blues. Subban drew a roughing penalty on Joel Edmundson, also earning an embellishment call from refs Dan O’Rourke and Jean Hebert.
As for those expecting a fine to Pittsburgh’s Nick Bonino… Assuming the league determined that play, late in Game 4 to be embellishment, that would’ve been Bonino’s warning. He’d only receive a fine for a subsequent violation.
Interesting, though, to see the rare playoff fine, especially right on the heels of a terrific write-up by Steve Whyno on embellishment in the NHL.
