Tonight’s referees for the 2017 AHL All-Star Classic are Tom Chmielewski and Keith Kaval. They’ll be joined on the ice by linesmen Glen Cooke and Scott Pomento.

Referee Tom Chmielewski

Chmielewski, 30, is in his fifth season in the AHL. A native of Colorado Springs, Chmielewski began his officiating career as a linesman in the USA Development Program and in the Central Hockey League.  After college, he donned the orange armbands and began referring the in the Development Program, working the 2011 USHL Finals.  He joined the ECHL in 2012, where he officiated the 2012 Kelly Cup Finals. He also began his AHL career in 2012, picking up a handful of games.  Chmielewski was hired by the NHL in 2013, making his league debut on April 8, 2014. Since then, he’s split time between the AHL and NHL.  Chmielewski also officiated the 2015 and 2016 Calder Cup Finals.

Referee Keith Kaval

Kaval, 38, has spent time in the AHL, ECHL, and OHL. In 2015, the veteran official headed to Russia to become the first North American to referee games in the KHL. Kaval also has plenty of international experience, having worked three straight IIHF World Championships.

Linesmen Glen Cooke & Scott Pomento

Cooke and Pomento are both AHL officiating veterans, having manned the American Hockey League’s bluelines for over a decade.
