Mitch Marner of the Toronto Maple Leafs scored a shootout goal on an amazing move Saturday night. So amazing, in fact, that the officials wanted to check with the NHL’s Situation Room to make sure it was a legal goal.
After a brief review, referee Kevin Pollock offered what is possibly the most helpful and detailed on-ice explanation in NHL history:
After review, we looked at 2 things: First of all, the puck stayed in forward motion; it did not come to a stop. And there was no goalie interference. We have a good goal.
Here’s the play:
Terrific explanation by referee Kevin Pollock.
While Mike Leggo may have the memorable penalty calls and Wes McCauley the dramatic goal call, Pollock’s the man when it comes to explanations.
