It looks like the Department of Player Safety has the Philadelphia Flyers on speed dial.

Dale Weise becomes the latest Flyer suspended this season. He’ll miss three games for an illegal check to the head of Anaheim Ducks defenseman Korbinian Holzer.

The hit happened at 7:35 of the second period of the Flyers’ home opener on Thursday, October 20.

“Weise unnecessarily extends up and into the head of Holzer,” the Player Safety video describes, “delivering a blow to the head and knocking him to the ice.”

Player Safety noted that Holzer is eligible to be checked on the play, though in a legal manner that doesn’t make the head the primary point of contact.

No penalty was called on the play.

Holzer did receive medical treatment – reportedly for a broken nose – but did return to the game, later assisting on Ryan Garbutt’s game-winning goal.

Weise has been suspended once before, missing   .  He’ll forfeit $39,166.68 as a result of the ban.
