While jabs to a gentleman’s manly bits continue to go unpunished, the NHL is taking a serious, hard-line stance on inappropriate use of water bottles.
First, Shawn Thornton felt the league’s wrath with a $2,820 fine. Henrik Lundqvist is the latest to be caught by the long arm of the law Department of Player Safety.
Lundqvist was hit with a $5,000 fine for spraying Pittsburgh Penguins captain Sidney Crosby with his water bottle at the end of the second period of Game Six in New York.
Lundqvist’s fine was more than that of Bruins’ Shawn Thornton since fines are capped at a maximum of one half of one day’s pay. Lundvqist’s $6.8M salary far surpasses Thornton’s $1.1M.
